A/C Kit Is Not Getting Cold – Part 1

Getting your a/c kit to be ice cold should not be a hard endeavor nor should you settle for slightly cool airflow. All Classic Auto Air kits are ensured prior to being sent out to produce the coldest temps coming out of your vents. Classic Auto Air takes multiple Quality Control steps to make sure the Air Conditioning Kit you buy is the best we have to offer. Our Quality Control process is one that has set the bar in the industry.

With all that being said we have found over the past few decades that installation tends to be the number one source of kit failures. A/C is a tricky thing and having a professional install can make a lot of difference. You can install any Classic Auto Air A/C Kit by yourself in your own garage over a weekend, but you do have to follow the instructions. Just like anything in life, there are steps to make your A/C kit run the coldest possible.

Water Valve

An often overlooked, misunderstood component is the water valve. A very simple and convenient part of the a/c kit but gets installed incorrectly all the time. Here are a few water valve tips to keep in mind.

A Classic Auto Air water valve is a directional valve. This means it should be installed with the arrow pointing towards the water pump. This is critical for proper function. Is the water valve is connected to the incorrect hose? If it is, this allows water to circulate through the system via the heater core overpowering the cooling effect of the a/c coil. Is the Water Valve closing all the way? There may be an object in the line preventing the water valve to close or open properly.

As with all of our products we stand behind them. If you are having a problem or if you are just unsure you are installing the a/c kit correctly, contact us. Our Master Techs are here to make sure you get the information you need. And after your install is complete we would love to see. You can upload any images of your finished install to our Customer Upload page here.

Is there any way to install a perfect fit Elite system in a 70 Chevelle using the original heater/ac controls? I realize the DER is no doubt a more functional control, but I am looking to keep the interior of my car as original and stock looking as possible. Also, would it be possible to wire the DER control in a hidden location such as the console box and have you had anyone attempt any type of similar install. I appreciate any type of help you could provide. Thank you.

      Hello Mark

I have some universal integrators that you might be able to adapt over to the back of your original control panel with some modifications.
It wont read out correctly to what it says on your panel but it would be your only option. Thanks for the email.
