Alternate A/C Compressor Placement for a ’69 Camaro with a Fuel-injected Engine

This email inquiry from a ’69 Camaro owner refers to a retrofit we perform on an almost-daily basis.

I’m building a ’69 Camaro with no A/C and an injected LS1 engine. I like the idea of adding your Perfect Fit System but wonder what I would have to do to make it work in my case. I have to mount the compressor high on the passenger side and the harness is set up with the all the A/C wiring going to the PCM. Have you done a retrofit like this before?

Yes, we’ve done this many, many times. We have a Perfect Fit Elite System for the ’69 Camaro that is fully electronic and uses your factory heater-only control panel. We adapt that control panel to control your heat, A/C, defrost, and floor heat. Behind the scenes we add a blower switch, all new wiring, and our EZ Cable Integrators. This bolts right into your car.

We have a bracket that mounts the compressor on the top of the engine on the passenger side, which is required to accommodate the fuel-injected motor. We don’t like to use the factory variable displacement compressor, however. Instead we recommend using our Sanden compressor so you don’t have to notch your frame as you would if you used the original factory location.

The wiring on our Perfect Fit Elite systems is totally independent of the wiring on the PCM for your engine. It’s very simple wiring: a 12V source comes from our wiring harness that goes through a pressure switch for the AC system and directly to your compressor. You don’t need to tie in to any wiring on your PCM at all.

If you have any questions about fitting our Perfect Fit Elite Systems to your vehicle, drop us a line and our sales associates will be happy to help.
