Connecting A/C Lines in a 70 Monte Carlo

The CAA car guys are here to help you figure out exactly what parts you need to get the A/C working in your classic car. Here’s a typical inquiry we get from potential customers looking for the right hoses for their upgraded air conditioning systems.

I put a serpentine drive system on my 70 Monte Carlo and need to connect the A/C lines from the Sanden compressor to the factory POA valve and factory condenser. Do you have fittings/hoses available for me to complete this project? I might also change the condenser so the fittings will both be on the passenger side of the engine bay.

We can supply you with the hoses and fittings to go from your Sanden compressor to the factory air unit on the firewall as well as the condenser in front of the radiator. You’ll need a 13-406 Sanden suction hose and a 13-408 Sanden discharge hose. The suction hose is open on one end and is supplied with the correct j-hook fitting for the POA valve. The discharge hose is also open on one end, and comes with a selection of #8 FOR fittings to connect to the top fitting of the condenser.

Both hoses will need to be cut to fit and the loose fitting crimped onto the hose. The fittings of the compressor will be 90’s with R134a charge ports, unless you want something different.

To move the condenser fitting from the driver’s side to the passenger side, we can use our Chevelle/Monte Carlo condenser kit from our P-fit series aftermarket system. The new condenser is a modern parallel flow core, which helps with cooling if you are running R134Aa. The condenser kit includes hoses, condenser brackets, and filter drier.

You can read more about our P-fit kit here along with some details about the condenser install. (The large tube we use to move the top fitting on the condenser to go from the passenger side to the driver’s side would not be used in your application.) You might have to make a penetration on the passenger side of the condenser to accommodate the connection.

If you have similar applications for your car, let us know! We’ll be happy to help you make the install as painless as possible.
