Meet the Classic Auto Air Team: Matt Paskins – Production Manager, CAA Tampa, Florida

Matt Paskins with his 95 Honda wagonThis is the fifth in our series of interviews with the dedicated staff and A/C experts at our two locations in Texas and Florida.

How long have you been with CAA?

Eight years.

What do you like best about working at CAA and why?

I like the satisfaction of reviving someone’s old worn-out A/C unit.

What was your first classic or your first car?

My first car was an 86 Ford Escort, which I got from my older brother for free. It had carb problems, the rear wheel cylinders were leaking badly, and the windshield had been smashed when the hood flew open. But it was free so I can’t complain.

What do you like best about your customers’ classics?

Attention to detail. Some of the customers who send in parts for rebuild have a high-level expectation, which leaves you to assume that the rest of the car is just as pristine as the parts leaving our shop. When I see pictures of customers’ projects I really see the time and dedication they put into their cars.

What maintenance or repair job do you dread most?

Anything that does not involve an upgrade or modification.

Do you currently own a classic?

Nope. Just my 95 Honda Accord station wagon (pictured above).

Fill in the blank: Someday I would like to own …

An imported 94-95 Accord station wagon. I am a fanatic for cars that have a nice OEM style to them. My taste tends to lean towards imports. Having a car that came off the assembly line straight from Japan would suit me best. Or an early 70’s Datsun 510 coupe.

What personal hobbies or interests might be of interest to our readers?

Cars! I am a car guy. I work on my car. I am a DIY-er.

What are some other fun facts your customers might like to know about you?

My previous car, a 95 Civic DX hatchback, was bought with a blown engine. Later a turbo kit was built by Mark, another Classic Auto Air employee, and myself and the car was taken to the local 1/8 mile track. After street tuning (also done by me), my best time was 8.5 @ 89 mph. After a new addition to the family, I traded it for my current car.
